Warut Promboon
Warut is a Partner and a Head of Research. His credit research career spans over 24 years in the US, Hong Kong, Singapore, and Thailand and entails various capabilities from project finance, leverage finance, credit risk management, sell-side credit research, treasury, and rating advisory. His experience also spans different geographical specializations (North and South America, Europe, and Asia) and various industries of both financial institutions and corporates.
He has been a Managing Partner at Bondcritic since 2017. Prior to that, he was leading Dagong Hong Kong’s Asian credit rating team which produces credit research and rating reports across various industries. Prior to Dagong Hong Kong, he was a Director of Asian Credit Research at Societe Generale and ING as well as a Head of ALM Credit Analysis in charge of asset allocation and credit strategy for Standard Chartered Bank’s USD29-bn global bond portfolio. Warut has been a speaker in fixed income investment events as a moderator and as a panelist. He has also been a guest lecturer on Asian credit research topics at Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. In his previous publishing role in 2008, he was ranked 4th best Asian fixed income analyst by FinanceAsia’s investors’ survey. Warut earned MSc (Global Finance) from New York University and MBA from University of Kentucky. He is a Thai/US citizen and is a Hong Kong permanent resident.
Ian Archer
Ian is a Partner and Portfolio Manager. He is also an Alum of the Robert F Toigo Foundation. He has 20 years of experience investing in a broad array of emerging markets including Russia, Turkey, Brazil, Columbia, Chile, Peru, Egypt & South Africa.
He is a former founding member of Nubuke Investments LLP, a Multi-Strategy hedge fund focused on investing in the equity, fixed Income, commodity & foreign exchange markets in Africa. At Nubuke, Ian co-managed the public and private equity strategies within the Nubuke Multi-Strategy Fund from inception in 2008 to 2010. Prior to founding Nubuke in 2007, Ian was a Senior Analyst at Matterhorn Investment Management, a London based Emerging Markets Equity Long/Short Hedge Fund. At Matterhorn, he covered the resource, consumer, telecoms, and financial sectors with a special focus on the Russian, Brazilian, Turkish and South African markets. Prior to Matterhorn, Mr. Ian was an Investment Analyst at Emergent Asset Management from 2004-2005. At Emergent, Ian researched and recommended investments for the Ballistic fund, Emergent’s Equity Long/Short Strategy. Prior to Emergent, he worked for four years as an Equity Research Analyst at JP Morgan Fleming Asset Management as part of a team which managed a USD4bn emerging market fund with investments in 26 countries. At JP Morgan Fleming, Ian worked both as a generalist and sector analyst, covering consumer and industrial companies in the European emerging markets. Ian earned his MBA from Columbia Business School. He has a BA with Honors Distinction in International Relations from the University of Pennsylvania.
David Brenninkmeyer
David is a Partner and Portfolio Manager. He has 15 years of investment experience, primarily focused on emerging markets. Most recently, he managed both a frontier market/small emerging market country strategy and an emerging market small cap strategy at BNP Paribas Asset Management, and he invested in all sectors across Asia, Latin America, and EMEA as a senior member of the firm’s Global Emerging Markets team. Previously, he was a Senior Analyst at Wells Capital Management, where he invested in the consumer, financial, TMT, and real estate sectors in Latin America. He started his career as a Corporate Finance Analyst in the Investment Banking Division of J.P. Morgan, and prior to business school, worked as a Credit Risk Manager for Banco Ibi, in São Paulo, Brazil. David earned his MBA from Columbia Business School, where he participated in the Value Investing Program and interned for several global and U.S. focused hedge funds, and his BA from Williams College, where he majored in Economics and Psychology.
Shayna Malnak
Shayna is a Partner & Portfolio Manager. She has analyzed investments across the capital structure for 30 years. She was a senior analyst at DWS Americas (Formerly Deutsche Asset & Wealth Management) where she analyzed high yield bonds and leveraged loans for investment in funds, separate accounts and loan structures. At Williams Capital Management she led credit research of US and non-US investment grade securities for cash and total return portfolios and was a member of the portfolio management committee; she also evaluated high yield bonds for separate accounts. She did this after working several years as a sell-side equity analyst covering software companies at Williams Capital Group. Prior to this she was deeply involved in emerging markets as a brokerage analyst of energy companies in Latin America with BBV Securities. Before this she was involved in fund management and investment analysis for the high net worth family office of Unifund S.A. in Geneva, Switzerland & NYC, where she evaluated private and public investments globally, with a strong focus on emerging markets. She began her career at Standard & Poor’s Corp. Shayna earned her MBA from Pace University in NYC and a Bachelor of Journalism from the University of Texas, Austin.
